Jorginho scored two penalties — the second after Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta stopped Tammy Abraham taking it — to complete a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
Chelsea’s lead was secured by Ben Chilwell scoring on his league debut for Chelsea in the 50th minute and the leftback’s cross set up Kurt Zouma for a header in the 66th.
Jorginho added the third from the penalty spot in the 78th after Abraham was tripped by Tyrick Mitchell. Ben Chilwell stars on debut as Chelsea see off Crystal Palace to ease pressure on Frank Lampard.
It has taken Chelsea £121.3million and six years to try to find the long-term replacement for Ashley Cole and while it is still early days in Ben Chilwell’s bid to fill his boots, the club’s latest expensive left-back could not have made a better start.
Chilwell’s inclusion not only coincided with Chelsea’s first Premier League clean sheet of the season, but the £50m summer signing from Leicester City also registered a goal and assist on his League debut for the Blues.
While Abraham may have been momentarily annoyed, Lampard will have been delighted to secure a second League win of the season that provide some clues to how his expensively assembled squad might start to look once everybody is fit and available.
