Man United superstar tells friends he wants to leave the club

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United forward has told friends he wants to quit Man United this summer, Goal Gazette understands.

The superstar, 24, has slipped to the Old Trafford fringes this season amid speculation over his future.

A source with knowledge of Rashford’s situation has told that the player has let it be know to those close to him that he is ready to sever his ties with his boyhood club to reignite his career.

It is believed he has spoken to his inner circle about his lack of playing time and how a new challenge could be the best option.

Manchester United fans would rail against the possibility of losing a hometown hero who has graduated from their academy to make nearly 300 first-team appearances.

Marcus Rashford is also a household name for his off-the-pitch work campaigning for free school dinners.

That has led to suggestions in some quarters that the forward’s focus has not entirely been on football over the last two seasons.

Rashford has disputed that argument and used his social media accounts to defend his recent performances.

Behind the scenes, his stance on a potential exit is not believed to be related to the club’s search for a new manager.

Rashford has a contract that runs until the summer of 2023 and includes the option of a further 12 months.

He has scored just five goals in 26 appearances this season, starting only a third of United’s Premier League matches.

In total, his 297 games for United have yielded 93 goals and 58 assists.
